DON’T BE AVERAGE”

                     “GO AGAINST THE GRAIN”

“BE BOLD, BE UNIQUE”

            “REUSE DON’T REPEAT”

These are and were the mantras I grew up on and try to live by today, in my Design work,  my fashion style, and how I walk through this world.

Maybe it started as being a Middle Child and feeling a bit overlooked…need I say more other Middle Children??…the last thing I wanted to be was “middle of the road”, “average”, just “ok”.

Maybe it was having an Artist Mother who was a bit of a rebel and who taught me to search out unique pieces with character that you couldn’t buy in a department store – who was ok with me cutting up my cloths to create a new look.

All I know now, is when it was time to Design my own house from scratch, I was very intentional about every decision.  I slowed myself down from trying to source everything too quickly, and gave myself the time to discover pieces organically – through travel, flea markets, and stumbling into unique small boutiques.  This process is not for everyone, as it requires patience, something I am not usually known for, but now appreciate for the one of a kind results it brings and a home I have built like no other.

My exterior lights,  mostly nautical inspired, were either picked up at the flea market, or in Maine at an Antique mall while visiting my parents.  I also found my garage door handles, some pulls for my kitchen and bathrooms and a Porthole for my front door the same way.  Many of the accessories and furniture pieces in this house are from flea markets or small boutiques – see my favorite haunts below. I have schlepped some pretty weird and quirky stuff from all parts of this world that have ended up in this house, or in some of my projects, and now they set the tone for “THE BIG PICTURE”.

What do you want your “BIG PICTURE”  to be? It’s all in the details!
